DSL disconnect problems
Linksys Router and disconnects
If you are using a Linksys router and are getting disconnected, try the following:
- Go to web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 (IP
Address) of the Linksys Router.
- Enter the password if prompted (default is "admin").
- In the Setup tab, select the option Keep Alive and set the Redial
Period option at 20 (seconds).
- Click Apply and Continue button.
- Click the Status tab and click the Connect button.
- The login status may display as Connecting. Press the F5 key
to refresh the screen until you see the login status display as
Connected.
- Click the Apply and Continue buttons to continue.
Windows XP Pro getting disconnected With some ADSL/Cable modems
(especially USB), you may have a problem with getting disconnected after
a few hours. Here are two solutions to resolve the problem:
Disable Hibernation
- Right-click the desktop and select Properties.
- Click the Screen Saver tab.
- Click the Power button at the bottom of the Display Properties
dialog.
- Click the Hibernate tab and uncheck Enable hibernation.
Disable Windows Messenger
- Go to Start and click Run.
- In the Run dialog type gpedit.msc.
- Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows
Components > Windows Messenger
- Right-click "Do not allow Windows messenger to be run"
- Go to Properties and check the box next to enable.

Cannot change idle time for disconnect (Windows
2000)

IdleDisconnectSeconds Double-click on the 00,6 IdleDisconnectSeconds to show the
value. Change it to zero then reboot. The next time you connectthe
idle time will change to never.
Windows 98SE Issue - NDIS Intermediate Drivers There may be a
problem with ndis intermediate drivers. The network throughput and overall
network performance may gradually decrease, sometimes to the point that the
computer hangs or becomes completely unresponsive to network requests. RASPPPoE
will warn that the update has not been installed. Microsoft recommends that you
do not install this update unless you are experiencing symptoms. See Q243199 for more information and a fix.
